I hope you had a great weekend. It seems impossible to be entering the month of May this week! Many thanks for all the nice happy birthday messages last week, they made my day very special!

Many thanks to our Alexis Murphy and Renee Sichlau and the Green 4 Good Committee who spearheaded our incredible Earth Week observations last week. The weather was perfect for our Walking School Busses! In addition to walking to school, the Green 4 Good Committee read books in our classes, sponsored the Waste Free Lunch Challenge and the Joey FineRhyme assembly. Thanks to the efforts and support of this committee Lincoln continues to make progressive strides in practicing and educating our community on sustainability practices!

I hope you can join us for our first ever Fine Arts Festival at Lincoln on Thursday evening. We Mrs. Kozbur and Mrs. Halter have been working hard preparing our students and transforming our school into the Lincoln School Art Institute!

Lincoln School Fine Arts Festival

Please join us for the first ever Lincoln School Fine Arts Festival. Stroll the Lincoln hallways and view the incredible artwork of our students or pop by the auditorium for some demonstrations of music from our 2nd and 4th graders. This is structured to be a very informal evening to visit our Fine Fine School and view the creations of our Fine Fine Students!

The Music demonstration times will be as follows in the auditorium:

7:15pm Bajo
7:25pm Cheney/Baiocchi
7:40pm Gattis

Over the weekend several Lincoln Eagles had their art work displayed at the annual West Suburban Consortium for Academic Excellence (WSCAE) Art Fair at the Cheney Mansion in Oak Part. Congratulations to:Stella Flynn, Kareena Patel, Orion Ocepek, Xavier Dubois , Sara Okasinski Gonzalez ,Maeve Bonadkar ,Adrien Dubois and Jack Murphy. These kids and the amazing Mrs. Kozbar represented Lincoln very well at this years event!

Finally, don’t forget the final day to offer input in the class placement process for 2019-20 is Friday May 3. Please see the attached letter for more information.

The Library Lowdown
Book Fair

Lincoln will be hosting a Scholastic “Summer Reading” book fair the week of May 6th. This book fair is in conjunction with Mr. Schu’s (Scholastic Ambassador for School Libraries) visit with the second and third graders earlier this year. It will be a smaller book fair that focuses on paperback books for summer reading. Students will receive a flyer next week detailing some of the books available. The hours of the book fair are as follows (students with spending money can shop during recess):

Mon, May 6 — 11:30 – 12:25 and 3:15 – 4:00
Tue, May 7 — 8:00 – 8:15, 11:30 – 12:25 and 3:15 – 4:00

Earth Week Wrap Up

Waste-Free Lunch Challenge Winners

1st & 2nd Graders triumphed again! Over 3 days, 64% of their lunches were waste-free with a remarkable high of 73% last Wednesday. 3rd & 4th Graders did great, too, with 60% waste-free over 3 days and a high of 68% last Wednesday.

SchoolKidz Supply Kits – order NO LATER than May 17

SchoolKidz supply kits are now available to order for the 2019-2020 School Year!   The Lincoln PTO sponsors a School Supply Kit process to simplify your life! You can order a school supply kit online and the kit will be delivered to your child’s classroom in August before school starts. Orders are online only and they are accepted only until May 17. The PTO does not buy extra kits, so if you miss the deadline, you will be unable to order the prepackaged kit. The supplier cannot accept late orders.  Please remember to buy a kit for NEXT YEAR’s Grade Level.

Join in 4th Grade Field Day Activities
Would your son or daughter like to participate in one of Lincoln School’s Field Day traditions? Our kids have excitedly been watching the “big kids” (aka – 4th graders) over the years entertain and kick off Field Day with Drumming and the Maypole Dance. Now it’s their turn to participate! Field Day is currently scheduled for the last day of school, June 12th. Your 4th grader can choose to participate in the Maypole Dance and/or Drumming. Register NOW on the PTO Webstore!  Drumming practice is Tuesdays/Thursdays at 7:30am in the gym.  Maypole practice is Wednesdays/Fridays at 7:30am in the gym. REGISTRATION CLOSES SUNDAY, MAY 5.

Commemorative Video for 4th Graders: Pictures Needed
A video will be shown at the 4th grade breakfast on the morning of the last day of school, June 12th. The video will contain pictures of the 4th graders through their years at Lincoln School. So grab a box of tissues and scroll through your old photos. Please begin to gather a variety of photos of your child commemorating all of their years at Lincoln, grades K through 4. We suggest photos from school events, school concerts, class parties, field trips, PTO events, back to school pictures, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, other clubs, youth sports teams, pictures with good Lincoln buddies, etc.

We want to ensure that everyone is included so in the body of the email please include child’s name, grade / teacher at the time pic was taken. Anxiety is Real!

PTO Parent Enrichment Seminar with Kyla Gilmore, LCPC, BC-DMT
Wednesday, May 1, 7:00 pm
Roosevelt Middle School Auditorium
Kyla has worked at Riveredge Hospital for the last 10 years, where she is a Weekend Administrator and Coordinator of the Creative Arts Therapy Department. Riveredge Hospital is a behavioral health facility, caring for children through geriatrics patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Kyla has held her License as a Clinical Professional Counselor since 2010. She has several years of private practice experience in Oak Park, IL and has extensive workshop and training experience in Service Excellence, Trauma Informed Care, Trauma Stewardship, Multicultural Competence and Dance/Movement therapy.

Anxiety is a human phenomenon we all experience. Learn cues to identify why anxiety has become problematic. In this workshop parents will learn basic neurobiology principals about how anxiety impacts us all. Practical skills will be taught to provide attendees with knowledge and effective strategies for managing anxiety.
