4/21 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and the opportunity to relax or gather with friends and family. It’s hard to believe there are only seven Mondays remaining in this school year. It will be a busy march to the finish line, so be sure to read carefully so you don’t miss out on anything.

Please join us this week in celebrating the three ladies who truly make Lincoln School run. Happy Administrative Assistants Day to Mrs. Dwyer, Mrs. Brennan and of course our Wonder Woman, Mrs. Kopriva.  Lincoln School would not be the Fine Fine School that it is without Amy, Anna and Maribeth pouring their heart and soul into caring for our kids, teachers and community!

This week Lincoln will be celebrating Earth Week. The forecast looks a little wet, but hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate for our Walking School Busses this week. Read more below about the Waste Free Lunch challenge and the other fun events the the Green 4 Good Committee has planned.

Don’t forget to save the date:

Lincoln School Fine Arts Festival
Thursday, May 2 6:30-8:00
Please join us for the first ever Lincoln School Fine Arts Festival. Stroll the Lincoln hallways and view the incredible artwork of our students or pop by the auditorium for some demonstrations of music from our 2nd and 4th graders. This is structured to be a very informal evening to visit our Fine Fine School and view the creations of our Fine Fine Students!

Many thanks to Connect 4 Kids and all the volunteers who came in to help provide the extra movement breaks for our 3rd and 4th grade kids over the past two weeks of IAR testing. I know our kids and teachers are glad to have this behind us.

We are nearing the final chapters of our One Book One School… don’t forget to send in the selfies of your kids or family reading “The Mouse and the Motorcycle.”  This weeks readings are:

  • Monday, April 22 – Chapter 10-11
  • Wednesday, April 24 – Chapter 12
  • Friday, April 26 – Chapter 13

Finally, don’t forget that Friday, April 26 is an 11:25 early release for our kids. There will be no AM Kindergarten attendance. PM Kindergarten students will attend the morning session.

As always, thanks for all of your support of Lincoln. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do for your family. Have a great week. CG

Wednesday Walking Club

Join us Wednesdays from 8 – 8:15am. We are walking towards a goal of 300 miles to ‘Get Ms. Kopriva to her Wisconsin home for the summer!’ We have already walked 53 miles!

Meet us on the Franklin side playground for a walk around the ball field. This is a great way to start the day, say hello to friends and wake up our bodies for a great day of learning. All are welcome. (This includes friends, parents, grandparents, siblings of all ages!)  If it is rainy, there is no walking club that day.

We still need a few volunteers to sign up. If you are able, please consider helping out for this short commitment.  You can commit to one Wednesday morning or more, whatever works for your schedule. See details on Sign Up Genius.  See you on Wednesday!

A big THANK YOU!

Thank you to all who donated to the Heartworks Food Drive.  Also, many thanks to Connect 4 Kids and the volunteers who provided extra recess to 3rd and 4th graders during IAR testing.

Join in 4th Grade Field Day Activities
Would your son or daughter like to participate in one of Lincoln School’s Field Day traditions? Our kids have excitedly been watching the “big kids” (aka – 4th graders) over the years entertain and kick off Field Day with Drumming and the Maypole Dance. Now it’s their turn to participate! Field Day is currently scheduled for the last day of school, June 12th. Your 4th grader can choose to participate in the Maypole Dance and/or Drumming. Register NOW on the PTO Webstore!  Drumming practice is Tuesdays/Thursdays at 7:30am in the gym.  Maypole practice is Wednesdays/Fridays at 7:30am in the gym.

Commemorative Video for 4th Graders: Pictures Needed
A video will be shown at the 4th grade breakfast on the morning of the last day of school, June 12th. The video will contain pictures of the 4th graders through their years at Lincoln School. So grab a box of tissues and scroll through your old photos. Please begin to gather a variety of photos of your child commemorating all of their years at Lincoln, grades K through 4. We suggest photos from school events, school concerts, class parties, field trips, PTO events, back to school pictures, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, other clubs, youth sports teams, pictures with good Lincoln buddies, etc.

Photos can be submitted to a google drive via https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Br8wAPodrOwDK0IUThraRsnGsFNttUMu?usp=sharing or emailed to Lincoln4thgradeclass@gmail.com. We want to ensure that everyone is included so in the body of the email please include child’s name, grade / teacher at the time pic was taken. We cannot use pictures from non-school events, no matter how cute. New families to fourth grade – there’s still time to take pics!  Example: Zoo field trip, 1st grade.

Feel free to contact Debby Bade and Krista Lambe at Lincoln4thgradeclass@gmail.com with any questions.

Join the 2019-2020 PTO Team – committees need you!

We still need volunteers for the 2019/2020 PTO …please consider signing up!  The mission of the PTO is to support and enhance the education of the children at Lincoln School…But without input, ideas and support from the families at Lincoln, fulfilling this mission is not possible.  There is a lot YOU can do for the PTO and for Lincoln School whether you are a working parent or a stay at home parent. Here are some areas we are still looking for committee members.  Please reach out to Amy Prestes (amy.prestes@gmail.com) or Ginger Timchak (gingertimchak@gmail.com) if you are interested in helping. One Earth Young Filmmakers Showing – Saturday, 4/27 at 2pm!

Image result for movie imagesYou are invited to a special screening of 10 short, honorable mention films from the One Earth Young Filmmakers Contest at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the River Forest Library, 735 Lathrop.
“What a Waste” (8 min.) by Lincoln School 3rd grader Lily Kleps will be one of the featured films.
We had a total of 19 winning films for the Young Filmmakers Contest and so were not able to screen all of them at the Gene Siskel Center on March 2. This follow up event will showcase many local winners and there will be “action partners” available to help viewers consider how to follow up afterwards.  Check out the flyer and press release!
