9/4 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,

I hope you enjoyed the extended holiday weekend! While I always enjoy the extra day, Labor Day is always a sobering reminder that summer has unofficially come to an end. I spent the weekend marathon training and boating with friends! I hope your weekend also provided the opportunity to soak in some end of summer adventures with your kids.

Many thanks to everyone who supported and attended our annual Back To School Picnic last Thursday. It was a wonderful way to welcome Mr. Davis to our Fine Fine School and to kick of the start of the year. Special thanks to Lauren Behan, Carla Heffner  and the army of volunteers who helped make the evening such a memorable night for our kids. I think I’ve finally thawed from my dunk-tank adventure…. and I’m ready to do it again next year!

On Thursday of this week, we will begin our Fall benchmarking assessments. This week we will administer AIMSweb assessments in Reading and Math. This data, in conjunction with upcoming NWEA MAP and other classroom assessments, will assist teachers in creating, implementing and differentiating instruction for all students this year. Attached is a letter outlining Aimsweb assessments in D90.

Finally, don’t forget to mark your calendar for our annual Open House/Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 14. Below is the schedule for the evening:

  • 6:30-6:55 – 3rd and 4th grade and AM/PM K (K in auditorium)
  • 7:00-7:25 – PTO/Casey meeting – in auditorium
  • 7:30-7:55 – 1st and 2nd grade

As always, many thanks for your continued support of our Fine Fine School. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can ever do to support your kids or family. Have a great week.  CG

Band and Orchestra Information

Dear 4th Grade Parents:

This year your child has the opportunity to join the band and orchestra program. Over the next couple of weeks, students and parents will receive important information about joining the band or orchestra. There are several steps to getting involved in the music program.

  1. This week students will attend an assembly where we explain the band/orchestra program to the students and demonstrate the various instruments that they can learn to play in school.
  2. Next week, students will have the opportunity to try out the instrument(s) that they are most interested in. During this session we will work with the student one-on-one in order to help them choose an instrument that best matches their interest and ability.
  3. On Tuesday, September 5, there will be an informational parent meeting in the Roosevelt School Auditorium at 7:00 PM. At this meeting we will give an overview of the program, expectations for participation, and information on renting an instrument. Also at the meeting, parents will be able to sign up for a conference time- described in the next step.
  4. On Wednesday, September 13, we will host student/parent/teacher conferences in the Roosevelt Band Room. At the conference, students will be able to try their instrument(s) one more time and finalize their choice. Representatives from Austin Music will be available to arrange for instrument rental. Appointments can be scheduled from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. We ask that all who are able to attend during the school day do so, so that there will be openings available for those who can only come after school.
  5. Lessons are scheduled to begin the week of September 18.

This is just an overview of the recruitment process. Complete details will be presented at the parent meeting on September 5th. Students who are interested in joining band and orchestra should return the attached form to their homeroom teacher as soon as possible. You may also sign-up online at http://bit.ly/JrRegistration17. Returning this form indicates your interest in the band and orchestra program and does not obligate you to join.

Thank you for your interest in the band and orchestra program. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming parent meeting and instrument selection conference.

A Big Thank You!

A big thank you to all for coming out to the back to school picnic last Thursday! Also, special thanks to coordinators Lauren Behan and Carla Heffner for all of their efforts.

Be a Lincoln Library Volunteer!

Do you love books?  Do you love to organize?  If yes, please consider becoming a Lincoln Library volunteer.  Over 25,000 books were checked out last year.  Of course, what goes out, must come back!  Volunteers are extremely vital to the library.  They help to get the books back on the shelves quickly so they can be checked out by new students.

The timing is flexible – either at beginning of the day (walk your kids to school and stay for a bit) or at the end of the day (come early and get a good parking spot).  Most volunteers come in weekly – but we are very flexible with schedules!

If you’d like more information, please contact Mrs. Brauweiler (“brauweilerd AT district90.org”) – she’d love to talk with you!

We Need Your Help!

There are many different ways to volunteer at Lincoln! You can sign up for one time volunteer slots at events like the pancake breakfast or for recurring volunteer slots like fun lunch. Some volunteer opportunities can be done at home while others take place at school or in the classroom.

The sign up genius page for Volunteer registration is NOW OPEN. Even if you can only commit to an hour a month, your help will be highly appreciated. We thank you in advance for your help!
