Lincoln Log 8/27/2017

Lincoln Families,

WOW!!! It’s so wonderful to have your kids back at Lincoln! The first two days of school were amazing. I hope you had an incredible weekend and enjoyed time with your kids. I spent the weekend at my family’s summer place at The Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri, celebrating my mom’s birthday. After a weekend of boating and fun on the water, I’m excited for the first full week of school!

It was such an incredible first two days back at school. Seeing your kids and the energy they bring to our school has made the transition back to school virtually seamless. On Thursday, we hosted our first Lincoln P.R.I.D.E. assembly of the year where we introduced all our new students, new staff, celebrated August birthdays, read the book “A Fine Fine School,” and even had an appearance by Eddie the Eagle.

Our most important task as educators at Lincoln school is ensuring your child is safe when they are with us. Therefore, next week we will have Safety Week here at Lincoln. Each day, we will practice one of the emergency drills and educate our kids on the protocols for emergency situations. We partner closely with the River Forest Police and Fire Departments to ensure the safety of all our kids. Next week, we will practice severe weather, fire, lockdown and earthquake drills.

I look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening at our Back to School Picnic. Be sure to bring some extra cash…because as a fundraiser for the PTO…. I’ll be sitting in a dunk tank! For a small donation, kids will be able to attempt to dunk their favorite St. Louis Cardinals fan! Can’t wait to see you there!

At Lincoln, we embed mindfulness and social emotional learning into our daily instruction. Our focus for the month of August and September is Respect: Respect for self, others, and community.

Hopefully, you’ve marked your calendar and can attend our first PTO meeting of the school year on Monday, August 28 @ 8:45 in the multi-purpose room. Our school wouldn’t be capable of offering such incredible opportunities to our kids without the generous support of our PTO. Please take some time to attend and support our kids.

REPORTING ATTENDANCE:
As a logistical convenience to our families please utilize the following methods when communicating the absence of your child:
1) Call the School Attendance Line and leave a detailed message: 708.366.7340

Your child received a flyer in last week’s Friday folder.  Order online here or via check, which can be dropped off with your order form in the school office. All orders ship to Lincoln and will be given to your child to bring home.  Please direct any questions to Jennifer Nelson (“jennifernelson77 AT gmail.com”).  Thank you for your support!

Be a Lincoln Library Volunteer!

Do you love books?  Do you love to organize?  If yes, please consider becoming a Lincoln Library volunteer.  Over 25,000 books were checked out last year.  Of course, what goes out, must come back!  Volunteers are extremely vital to the library.  They help to get the books back on the shelves quickly so they can be checked out by new students.

The timing is flexible – either at beginning of the day (walk your kids to school and stay for a bit) or at the end of the day (come early and get a good parking spot).  Most volunteers come in weekly – but we are very flexible with schedules!

If you’d like more information, please contact Mrs. Brauweiler (“brauweilerd AT district90.org”) – she’d love to talk with you!

We Need Your Help!

There are many different ways to volunteer at Lincoln! You can sign up for one time volunteer slots at events like the pancake breakfast or for recurring volunteer slots like fun lunch. Some volunteer opportunities can be done at home while others take place at school or in the classroom.

The sign up genius page for Volunteer registration is NOW OPEN. Even if you can only commit to an hour a month, your help will be highly appreciated. We thank you in advance for your help!
