9/10 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,
I hope you had a great weekend with your kids! The upcoming week is a busy one here at Lincoln.

Its hard to believe tomorrow marks yet another anniversary of a date that many of us still remember like yesterday. To honor 9-11 tomorrow at Lincoln we will observe our daily moment of silence, recite the pledge and sing America the Beautiful during the morning announcements.

Our staff and I are excited to welcome you to our annual Open House on Thursday evening. September 14. The schedule for the evening is as follows:

Additionally, this week we will continue our beginning of the year assessments for grades 2-4 with the administration of the NWEA MAP assessments. D90 administers this assessment to students in grades 2-4 each Fall and Spring. The data from this assessment provides teachers with instructional data used to differentiate and individualize student instruction. The MAP testing schedule is listed below. A summary of your child’s MAP results will be sent home at the conclusion of all D90 Fall testing.

I’ve recently been in communication with the Principal of Hairgrove School in the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston. Many of their students and families lost everything during Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. Therefore, in partnering with the PTO we have decided to adopt Hairgrove and support their students as they return back to school with a School Supply and Gift Card Drive. Therefore, please consider supporting this initiative.

This Thursday, September 14 we will celebrate Principal Birthday Lunch for all 1st-4th Grade September Birthdays! I look forward to celebrating with our September birthdays.

Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can ever do to better support your family or your kids. Thanks for your continued support of Lincoln School. Have a great week. CG

Sign Up to Be a Room Parent

This year, the Room Parent Coordinators and teachers have decided to have parents sign up for any volunteer opportunities in your child’s classroom with Sign Up Genius instead of at Open House. This should provide all parents a more efficient way to volunteer for parties and activities in your child’s classroom such as holiday parties, field trip chaperones, classroom photographers and more…. Help for Houston!

We’ve recently been in communication with the Principal of Hairgrove School in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District in Houston. Many of their students and families lost everything during Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. Therefore, in partnering with the PTO we have decided to adopt Hairgrove and support their students as they return back to school with a School Supply and Gift Card Drive. Therefore, please consider supporting this initiative.

Please send any supplies, money or gift-cards to school with your child this week. There will be bins in the Park Ave. lobby for donations! Our collections will be shipped to Texas next Friday.

4th Grade Girl Scouts

Our troop started as Kindergarten “Daisies” and we are still going strong, ready to spend our last year at Lincoln focusing on kindness, leadership skills, and service projects. We always have room for more girls and are gearing up to be “Juniors” this year! Are you new to Lincoln? Always wished you joined? Left the troop but want to come back? Our parent info night will be a family potluck on Tuesday 9/12, and troop meetings will start the first week of October. Contact Lurana for details: “luranajbrown AT yahoo.com”.
