5/23 Lincoln log

Lincoln Families,

I hope you enjoyed this “summer like,” weekend.

As we wrap up the month of May, many thanks are owed to Candy Singh and Jahee Hong Yi for all of their efforts and advocacy for assisting in  Lincoln’s first observance of Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Candy and Jahee collaborated to create a resource guide that aided our staff in highlighting Asian culture throughout the Month of May. Thanks to their help Asian fun facts, music culture was included in my daily Morning Messages to kids. Additionally, last week we had a school wide author visit with Natasha Yim. It was a wonderful month, thanks to their dedication to this project.

Fourth grade families, it’s hard to believe that your kids are entering their final thirteen days at Lincoln. Please be sure to read the message I sent to all 4th grade families last week outlining the many 4th grade events that are taking place over the next few weeks. In the event you didn’t receive that email, here is the message.

This week we will be celebrating the Lincoln School Instructional Aide Support Staff. These incredible “behind the scenes,” individuals literally make our Fine Fine School run. They are always found working a recess or lunch shift, making copies, running errands and supporting our teachers and kids. Please take a moment this week to share some LINCOLN LOVE  with these Fine Fine individuals:

Ms. JoAnn Clark

Mr. Richard Taylor

Ms. Leigh Miles

Ms. Monique Forte

Ms. Tess Vanek

Ms. Jennifer Medland

Ms. Maggie English

Finally, don’t forget there is no school on Friday, May, 28 or Monday, May 31.

As always, thanks for your continued support of Lincoln. Please reach out if there is ever anything more I can do to support your family. Have a wonderful week. CG

Volunteer for Lincoln’s Native Gardens!

Lincoln has several areas of native plantings, including 2 curbside native gardens (Franklin and Park) and the garden outside the Kindergarten classrooms. These gardens are part of the West Cook Wild Ones Wildlife Corridor, AND are certified as Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation (NWF)

Native gardens serve as habitat for pollinators and other wildlife, provide important environmental services in cleaning our air, soil, and water, can be a didactic resource for teachers and students, and are relatively low maintenance. They DO however require ongoing weeding and occasional rearranging and watering. Whether you have a few hours a month OR want to take the lead, whether you have garden experience OR would just like to learn while meeting other parents, we would LOVE to count you in. Many hands make light work!

Please contact Amy Hansmann (amy@hansmann.org) or Alexis Murphy (alexis_murphy@hotmail.com) to express interest by May 31.

This week’s SEL message is a great exercise to promote happiness within families.  The video link gives instructions for a 60 second Laughter Yoga challenge.  The graphic is the visual aide for families to use if they would like to continue practicing laughter yoga together.

For example, my iPad/computer can’t connect to the XXXXX website when I click on this link.
