Lincoln Families,

I hope your family had a wonderful weekend. The past week’s celebration of Dr. King, the return of our kids to “Blended Learning,” and the historic inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris instilled in me an incredible sense of renewal and optimism for the days ahead! As we venture into the coming week here at Lincoln, there is a lot to take note of! 

Last Friday each Lincoln Eagle was given a new sheet of 30 Covid Stickers. It is imperative for the safety of all kids and staff that students arrive at school each morning wearing these stickers and having been pre-screened by an adult in your household on Power School each morning. While these steps may seem tedious, they are integral and essential components of “in person” learning. Additionally, masks at school are not optional and must be worn correctly by all students and staff personnel at all times. Please consider sending an additional mask to school for your child so they might change during the day if necessary. Finally, please continue to honor the District 90 guidelines for travel and quarantine. Your family’s compliance with these guidelines is greatly appreciated. 

I also wanted to more clearly clarify the guidelines Lincoln and District 90 implement regarding student access to remote learning. 

If a student or member of their household presents with any symptom related to Covid-19, they are permitted to access “remote” learning until ONE of the following has occurred:

• Self-imposed quarantine (ten days from the onset of symptoms or 14 days from last contact)
• They have supplied the school nurse with a doctor’s note indicating it is safe for the child to attend school and that there is no clinical suspicion of Covid 19.
• They have received a “negative” Covid-19 test

This also applies to siblings. For example, if a 4th grade student presents with a symptom, their 1st grade and 8th grade siblings must also access “remote” learning until one of the aforementioned has occurred. 

Additionally, if a child is diagnosed with Covid-19, strep throat, flu or any illness, it is assumed they are too ill to participate in “zoom” and should not access remote learning on those days. Waking up late or having a “slow” start does not constitute an acceptable reason for a student to access learning from home.

I realize that Covid-19 continues to deal us many complexities. However, it is important for us to maintain firm boundaries regarding access to “remote” learning. Please communicate directly with Ms. Godellas, Ms. Gerges or me with any questions regarding this.

Young Authors

Lincoln students have the opportunity to become the next Mo Willems or JK Rowling!  Young Authors is open to students in grades 1st – 8th.  Students can write an original piece (cannot be a school assignment) about anything they choose.  Writing pieces need to be bound and turned in to Mrs. Brauweiler by February 10th.  Attached is a flyer with more details. Some open Zoom meetings will be scheduled to check in with students.  We will have some type of school celebration later in the spring to recognize our authors.  Contact Mrs. Brauweiler if you have any questions.
