Lincoln Families,
Happy Summer! Welcome back to Lincoln! I hope this message finds you enjoying the closing days of Summer 2017. It’s hard to believe that in less than two weeks your kids will return to Lincoln to once again bring our school to life with their positive character and eagerness to learn.
Like every summer, this one seemed to go by exceptionally fast. As the summer days draw to a close, I am hopeful that you and your family are able to capitalize on some quality time together before the school year kicks off! On behalf of everyone here at Lincoln School, we are anxious to welcome your family for the excitement of the first day of school on Thursday, August 24th.
On Tuesday, August 15 your child’s 2017-18 class placement will be mailed via USPS to the your primary registration address. Should your family be out of town and unable to retrieve your mail, please send me an e-mail and I will happily send you an email with your child’s teacher information. godfreyc@district90.org
Please keep in mind that hours of preparation, discussions, and perhaps a few sleepless nights go into the creation of class lists and the various other intricacies of preparing for the start of school. The overall objective when creating these lists is to ensure that all students are placed in the best possible learning environment to meet their social, emotional, and academic needs. The input so many of you provided about your children in the spring was so helpful in this process.
Included in this first Lincoln Log, you will find supplemental information that will be useful in preparing for the new school year.
In addition to 70 new kindergartners and over twenty new families, this year we are also excited to welcome a few new staff members to Lincoln:
I know you will find them to be amazing assets to our already fine, fine faculty!
Below are the grade level teams for 2017-18.
School/Classroom Communication: If you haven’t already done so, please be sure to sign up to receive our weekly Lincoln Log family newsletter. Please go to https://lincoln.district90pto.org/ to sign up to receive this important weekly communication. Classroom teachers will also communicate with families on a consistent basis via class newsletters.
Attendance: This year we are excited to introduce a new attendance line as well as attendance email. For your convenience please use these new systems as a way to communicate your child’s absence. Families will no longer contact the school nurse to report student attendance. The logistics of this e-mail and phone line are being completed and will be shared with families before the start of school.
Arrival: Students are encouraged to arrive no earlier than 8:00 each morning. There will be staff supervision at both the Park and Franklin entrances from 8:00-8:15 each day. The entry bell rings at 8:15 and the instructional bell at 8:20.
Dismissal: Dismissal is at 3:10 each day. Lincoln Staff will also supervise both the Park and Franklin exits from 3:10-3:25. This year at 3:25 we will ring one final bell signaling all students on the playground without a supervising adult to travel home. For student safety purposes, only students supervised by an adult should remain on the playground after 3:25. Students still waiting to be picked up will escorted to the office.
Car Pool Line: Please always remember to exercise caution in the car-pool lines and follow these important rules:
Walking and Biking:
Students in Grades 2-4 are permitted to ride their bikes and park them on the Franklin playground. All walkers and riders MUST ONLY cross streets where a crosswalk exists.
Lunch: The lunch period for 2017-18 will be 11:30-12:30.
11:30-12:00 1st and 2nd Grade: Lunch
12:00-12:30 1st and 2nd Grade Recess
11:30- 12:00 3rd and 4th Grade Recess
12:00-12:30 3rd and 4th Grade Lunch
Our Green 4 Good Committee actively promotes recycling, composting, and waste-free lunches. Therefore, please keep this in mind when preparing your child’s lunch. Accommodations are made daily for students with allergies. Please contact our school nurse for any allergies related to your child.
Nurse’s Office:. We are so fortunate at Lincoln to have the amazing talents of Ms. Erin Godellas as our school nurse. Please reach out to her with any allergy or medical information regarding your child at Ext. 8034.
The beginning of a new school year always brings with it great excitement and optimism. There is something infectious about a clean school, new clothes, new faces, and energy surrounding the beginning of a new year. Through positive collaboration and open channels of communication, we can carry this same excitement through the entire school year. Please know that my door is always open and welcoming of your feedback and support.
As always, please let me know if there is anything I can do to help or support your kids/family this school year. I couldn’t be more excited to embark upon year three with our staff, kids and families at our Fine Fine School! Please tell your kids Mr. Davis and I say hello and can’t wait to see them soon!
All my best – CG
