8/30 PTO News & Message from Mr. Godfrey

A Message from Mr. Godfrey

Lincoln Families,

Welcome to the 2nd week of school! In my fifteen years in the education profession, I can’t recall a smoother, more positive, and energetic start to the school year. Many thanks to our teachers, staff and families for all your efforts to make this such a wonderful week for our kids!

It was so great to see so many of you attend our Back to School Picnic this past Thursday. What a great way to kick off the school year and welcome new families to the Lincoln community. Many thanks to our PTO Presidents Amy Dwyer, Tammy Travis and their Co-Chairs Peter Chien and Stephanie Rath for coordinating such a successful event!

I look forward to welcoming you all back to Lincoln during this week’s Open House event on Thursday, September 3rd from  7-8:30 PM. To prevent overcrowding, if at all possible, please refrain from bringing children to this event. Please see the schedule below.

  • 7:00-  PM Kindergarten, 3rd and 4th Grade families meet in their child’s classroom
  • 7:30-  All Lincoln Families assemble in the Auditorium
  • 8:00- AM Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade families meet in their child’s classroom.

Finally, over the next several weeks we will begin our fall benchmark assessments of students. Attached you will find information pertaining to these assessments and scheduling.  Benchmark Assessments

I am humbled by how warmly I’ve been embraced by this community and the support you show our teachers and Lincoln School. Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help you or your family. I’ll see you around next week.

Casey

Social Work Corner

The character theme for September is: COMMUNITY.

Community_000022032464Small

A community is a group of people.  People in a community usually spend time together and have some of the same interests.  Our Lincoln community includes students, teachers, parents, and other adults who want Lincoln School to be a good place to learn and have fun.

This year, our community has experienced many changes!  Please discuss with your child any changes they have noticed and give them the opportunity to ask questions.  Also, take time to highlight the wonderful aspects of our community that have remained the same.  We are incredibly lucky to have such a strong community with incredible resources.  Thanks to each of you individually for your unique contributions!

Looking for a Creative Outlet?

The PTO is looking for volunteers to help manage and create the Lincoln Yearbook.  We are specifically looking for parents with younger students as many of our experienced volunteers will be aging out of Lincoln soon.  Learn the ropes this year, and help lead the project next year!

Please contact Jenn Meyer “jmeyer AT ajenda.com” or Ann Mills  “anncieslica AT msn.com” if you are interested in learning more about this project.  Thank you!

We Have the Right Volunteer Opportunity for You!

446px-Uncle_Sam_(pointing_finger)Whether you work full time or from home, we have volunteer opportunities to fit your life and schedule. Come take a look on our Sign Up Genius volunteer page to see how you can best contribute your time to your child’s school. We need room parents, fun lunch volunteers, book fair helpers, pancake flippers, and even silent auction sales experts. Volunteer for a one day commitment, or regularly throughout the year. You can work from home, in the classroom, or in the evening. Take a look – we’d love your help! We also have some PTO positions to fill:

  • Web Store co-chair
  • Free Fundraisers (Box Tops, Panera & Lou Malnati’s nights)
  • Volunteer Coordinator/Sign Up Genius co-chair

We try to have 2 volunteers for every PTO Position, so “co-chair” means you already have a partner for this job. Please contact Amy Dwyer  “amyadwyer AT gmail.com”  or Tammy Travis  “tamara_irwin AT yahoo.com” for more information.  Thank you.
