Lincoln Families,
Welcome to the first Lincoln Log of the 2020-2021 school year. Wow, has the landscape changed since we were all last together at Lincoln on March 13. After surviving sixty days of e-learning in the spring and reveling in the lazy days of summer (as strange as it has been), it’s time again to welcome each of you, your kids and our teachers back to Lincoln.
While it’s not the “Back to School” any of us anticipated, the spirit of Lincoln School endures and the staff at Lincoln and I couldn’t be more excited and ready to welcome your kids back to school. Yes, much like life in 2020, school will look and feel different this fall, but find reassurance in knowing that the key elements that make Lincoln the finest school around remain fully intact… our kids and our teachers.
Hopefully, by now you’ve received the welcome message and video I sent to families last Thursday. In the event you didn’t receive it, here it is. This message/video is full of important information relevant to the start of school, so please be sure to view it. WELCOME BACK TO LINCOLN VIDEO
One of the many important topics outlined in Thursday’s communication is the school supply pick up scheduled for August 27 and 28. Please see the schedule below.
**Supply pick up will take place on Franklin playground
**Please be sure to wear a mask and adhere to physical distancing signage
In addition to supply pick up, your child’s teacher will be in contact with you this week regarding a Zoom class meeting that will be scheduled for Thursday or Friday. The social emotional needs of our kids are at the forefront as we plan for the start of school. Therefore, we felt the obligation to gather students for a brief class meeting prior to the start of remote learning. Other than the school supply pick-up and this class meeting, there will be no other obligation for students until Monday, August 31 when the traditional 9:00-3:00 remote school day will begin.
Technology will obviously be an integral component of remote learning this Fall. All kindergartners and students new to Lincoln will receive their iPad during school supply pick up on August 27 and 28. All returning students to Lincoln will utilize the iPad issued to them last year. Each returning student’s iPad has been updated remotely over the summer. However, I strongly encourage you to pull those out this week, charge them and ensure they are in proper working condition prior to August 31. In the event you have any issues, please contact powerschool@district90.org. Additionally, the D90 Technology Specialist will be providing ongoing support to families regarding various technology questions throughout the start of the year. Please view this link Getting to know your iPad for getting acquainted with your child’s iPad.
As always, I am humbled by all the kindness and support that has flooded my inbox over the past few weeks. I look forward to seeing you briefly on Thursday and Friday of this week and then every morning of remote learning via the Morning Messages. As always, please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to support your family during this unconventional return to school. Soak in every moment of this last week of summer! All my best. CG
