8/22 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,
Welcome back to School! I hope you enjoyed this final weekend before the official return of schedules and routines! I spent the weekend with my mom and dad who made the trip up for the first time in about a year! After some memorable family time, I’m rejuvenated and eager for my second year at our fine, fine school.

The Lincoln faculty and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome your family back to school on Thursday. D90 faculty and staff officially return on Monday for the traditional trainings, meetings, and final preparations of the 2016-17 academic year.

A focal point of this years staff learning will be led by the National Equity Project which will bring to life our districts newly adopted vision of equity:
“To ensure that every student feels empowered to achieve to his or her full potential, we commit to provide equitable opportunities for all learners, grow an inclusive school community, and demonstrate we value diversity.”
The ongoing work of the D90 Inclusive Advisory Board will guide and support our districts continued learning around this all important work.

As you enter Lincoln this week, please take special note of the beauty of both the interior and exterior of our school. Our maintenance and engineering crew have worked tirelessly to make Lincoln to look better than ever!

This week we will officially welcome over thirty new families to the Lincoln Family! Be on the look out for the “Welcome to Lincoln,” yard signs that will be distributed to the homes of our new families. Please be sure to welcome these families to our fine, fine school.

Keeping your children safe is always our top priority at Lincoln and D90 schools. Therefore, to further or efforts of security, this year visitors to D90 schools will be granted access to the schools through our new “double-buzz-in,” system. During school hours, when entering through the Park Ave. entrance, visitors will initially buzzed into the lobby after approval of office personnel. Once in the lobby visitors will granted access to the main office, after entering through a newly installed buzzer. While this added security feature may add a few seconds of inconvenience to your Lincoln School visit, please keep in mind that safety always trumps convenience. Thank you for your patience as we implement this new safety procedure.

Finally, please note a communication error in the previous newsletter related to our Open House on Thursday, September 8. Open House will begin at 6:30 PM.

Enjoy these next few days with your kids. Please reach out with anything I can help with. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday. CG

Earbuds Required for All Students This Year

Attention ALL parents…
The ONLY students who will receive earbuds in the SchoolKidz Kits are the SECOND GRADE students.  All other kits will NOT have earbuds and parents will need to purchase and send them in with their students.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but the earbud requirement was added to the School Supply List after the kits were arranged with SchoolKidz.  The second grade teachers have had the earbud requirement for many years; it’s new for all other grades.   Remember that your Amazon Smile orders benefit our PTO; we’re listed as “Lincoln Parent-Teacher Organization of River Forest.”

If you did not order the School Supply Kits for your students back in April from the Schoolkidz website, then you will need to purchase classroom supplies.  The above link will take you to the Lincoln list on the D90 website.

8/29 – First PTO Meeting of the Year

The first PTO meeting of the year will take place on 8/29 at 8:45am in the multi-purpose room.
Did you meet any new Lincoln families?
Please take a moment to introduce yourself and extend a warm welcome to the Lincoln community.  Yard signs are being delivered to new Lincoln families tomorrow. While you’re at it, please be sure to tell them to sign up for the Lincoln PTO Newsletter.  Just look on the right hand side of our web page for the sign up button.  Thanks!
