8/19 Lincoln PTO Newsletter

Lincoln Families,

Welcome to the most exciting week of the year! Since the beginning of summer break countless behind the scene efforts have been in motion to prepare for the return of your kids and the beginning of another adventure at our Fine Fine School!

Please accept my apologies for the delay in the delivery of the class assignment e-mail this past week. I realize this mishap caused some anxiety and frustrations for several families and I appreciate your patience and support as we worked through the glitches. As with doing anything for the first time, we learned a few lessons along the way that will aide us in being more efficient in the future.

Hopefully your family took advantage of this past weekend and these next few days to savor every last moment of Summer ’18! While I’m personally still a bit in denial about the end of summer I couldn’t be more excited to welcome your kids back to Lincoln in just a few days!

As you prepare for day 1, here are a few helpful reminders:

Don’t forget:

  • Monday, August 20, 6:00 Lincoln School New Family Welcome in the Lincoln School auditorium.
  • Thursday, August 23 is the first full day of classes for 1st – 4th Graders
  • Thursday, August 23 AM/PM Kindergarten orientation will occur from 8:30-9:30 for AM kids and families and 12:30-1:30 for PM kids and families.
  • Friday, August 24 is the first regular attendance day for our new Kindergarten kids.

Arrival: Students are encouraged to arrive no earlier than 8:00 each morning. There will be staff supervision at both the Park and Franklin entrances from 8:00-8:15 each day. The entry bell rings at 8:15 and the instructional bell at 8:20.

Dismissal: Dismissal is at 3:10 each day. Lincoln staff will also supervise both the Park and Franklin exits from 3:10-3:25. This year at 3:25 we will ring one final bell signaling all students on the playground without a supervising adult to travel home. For student safety purposes, only students supervised by an adult should remain on the playground after 3:25. Students still waiting to be picked up will escorted to the office.

Carpool Line: Please always remember to exercise caution in the carpool lines.

  • Please refrain from parking in the line.
  • Students should always exit the vehicle from the passenger side.
  • Please wait patiently for the vehicle in front of you to proceed before exiting the line.
  • Drive slowly in the school zones.

Walking and Biking: Students in Grades 2-4 are permitted to ride their bikes and park them on the Franklin playground. All walkers and riders MUST ONLY cross streets where a crosswalk exists.

Lunch: The lunch period for 2018-19 will be 11:30-12:30.

  • 11:30-12:00 1st and 2nd Grade: Lunch
  • 12:00-12:30 1st and 2nd Grade Recess
  • 11:30- 12:00 3rd and 4th Grade Recess
  • 12:00-12:30    3rd and 4th Grade Lunch

Our Green 4 Good Committee actively promotes recycling, composting, and waste-free lunches. Therefore, please keep this in mind when preparing your child’s lunch. Accommodations are made daily for students with allergies. Please contact our school nurse for any allergies related to your child.

Attendance: When reporting student absences, please be sure to call our attendance line 708.366.7340, Ext 8182, or send an e-mail to lincolnattendance@district90.org

Nurse’s Office:. We are so fortunate at Lincoln to have the amazing talents of Ms. Erin Godellas as our school nurse. Please reach out to her with any allergy or medical information regarding your child at Ext. 8034.

Hero Boys

HERO Boys is a youth development and engagement program for boys in 3rd – 5th grades. Using running as a base activity HERO Boys inspires boys to discover the character and courage that resides inside each one of them to be brave, stand for that which is right, and use their talents and strengths to lead and set the positive example amongst their peers. The school-based program is 8 weeks long and culminates with the HERO Boys 5K including boys from all schools participating in the program.

Program will run on Mondays from 3:15-4:15. The cost is $75. Please email anne gall if you’d like to participate, annegall3@gmail.com. A Maximum of 20 students will be accepted on a “first come, first serve” basis. Once we have all the participants you will be sent a registration form to complete and pay the fee.

Volunteer in the Library!

Do you love books? Do you love to organize? If yes, please consider becoming a Lincoln Library volunteer. Over 25,000 books were checked out last year. Of course, what goes out, must come back! Volunteers are extremely vital to the library. They help to get the books back on the shelves quickly so they can be checked out by new students.

The timing is flexible – either at beginning of the day (walk your kids to school and stay for a bit) or at the end of the day (come early and get a good parking spot). Most volunteers come in weekly – but we are very flexible with schedules!

If you’d like more information, please email Ms. Brauweiler directly – she’d love to talk with you!

We Need Your Help!

There are many different ways to volunteer at Lincoln! You can sign up for one time volunteer slots at events like the pancake breakfast or for recurring volunteer slots like fun lunch. Some volunteer opportunities can be done at home while others take place at school or in the classroom.

The sign up genius page for 2018-2019 Volunteer registration is open and can be accessed from the PTO website or the Webstore. Even if you can only commit to an hour a month, your help will be highly appreciated. We thank you in advance for your help!
