8/22 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,

Welcome back to school! I hope you and your family enjoyed every moment of this final weekend of summer. Whether your summer was spent locally or traveling, I hope you created some wonderful new memories with family and friends. I enjoyed some time “off the grid” in Hawaii and with the Godfreys in Florida. Here’s the latest snapshot of the Godfreys:

While the end of summer is often bittersweet, I’m hopeful that your family is as excited as the Lincoln staff is for the return of our kids to Lincoln this week. While the backdrop of the global pandemic will require our creativity, patience and flexibility, I have every confidence that it’s going to be another amazing year at our Fine Fine School.

Travel Guidance: In the event your final summer days find you returning from a location indicated on the Cook County Travel Advisory, please be aware of the following requirements necessary for your child to attend the first day of school and beyond. Under the current guidance, any non-vaccinated D90 student must obtain a negative Covid-19 test result no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Cook County or adhere to a 10 day quarantine upon arrival. Please note that remote learning will not be offered for travel related quarantine. Therefore, please plan accordingly if your travels will coincide with the beginning of the school year.  Attached you will find a link to the most up-to-date Cook County Travel Advisory. This guidance is updated every Tuesday, so please be sure to check frequently for any updates.

If you haven’t yet done so, please take some time to review the Lincoln Back to School Guide. There is a plethora of information included to assist your family in supporting our safe return to school. Most specifically, please note the entry that your child should use for arrival and dismissal.

Over the summer new bike racks were ordered for the Franklin side of Lincoln. Unfortunately, there is a possibility they will not be installed by Wednesday. Therefore any kids who enter on Franklin are encouraged to secure their bike to the inside fence on Franklin Ave.  Hopefully, the new bike racks will arrive soon.

Tomorrow evening we welcome all families new to Lincoln to join our virtual New Family Welcome. The Zoom link was sent last week.

It’s going to be an exciting week. Enjoy these final days of summer. As always, please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything more I can do to support your family’s back to school transition. Welcome back. CG

2nd Grade Bike Safety Workshop
Register NOW on PTO Webstore

Fall is the time to brush up on bike safety for 2nd graders as well as any child new to Lincoln! This is an informative and fun after school event. A member of the River Forest Police Department conducts a fun, informative and hands-on-the-handlebars bike safety workshop. Second graders are strongly encouraged to complete the workshop and become regular bike riders for the remainder of their Lincoln Eagle days. Classes will be offered after school on the playground from 3:10pm-4:30pm on either September 1st and September 2nd. Sign up for one session on the Webstore. 20 student max per day.

3rd/4th Grade Lunchtime Leaders
Register NOW on PTO Webstore

While historically a 4th grade volunteer opportunity, this year we will be offering openings for 3rd grade volunteers due to the separate 1 hour lunch periods. Overseen by Mr. Godfrey, Lunchtime Leaders assist students during either the 1st or 2nd grade lunch period. Lunchtime Leaders walk around during lunch assisting students in supplying various items, answering questions and supporting arrival and dismissal. Depending on student interest level, students will average two lunch periods per month. A monthly calendar is created and distributed to 3rd and 4th grade Lunchtime Leaders.

The Library Lowdown

I hope everyone had a fun summer and was able to squeeze in some reading as well.  If you read in crazy ways, please be sure to turn in your “Where did you read” checklist by Friday, September 3rd for a small prize.

I’ve included a copy of the checklist if needed.  If you took a picture of yourself reading, please email that directly to me at brauweilerd@district90.org as well by the first day of school (or soon after).

Lastly, if you found any lost library books over the summer, please return them next week.  Getting lost books returned makes a great start to the school year! — Mrs. Brauweiler
