Lincoln Families,
Happy “almost” Back to School!
I hope this message finds you well and that your family has baked as much fun, adventures, and memories into the summer as possible. Although it has passed entirely too quickly, my summer has been full of travel and creating great memories with family and friends. Here are some of my favorite summer memories from a few trips with my parents to Montana and Martha’s Vineyard and a visit to Sonoma with some friends.
Like you, our teachers, and our kids, I wish I could hold on to summer forever, but I like me, I hope you’ve bottled up your favorite memories and use all that rest and relaxation to embrace a positive mindset as we begin what promises to be the most “pre-pandemic” like school year that we’ve had since 2020!
By now, I’m hopeful you’ve received the messages I emailed to all families on Friday, 8/12. Please be sure to review the Lincoln Back to School Guide 2022-23. While most all important information can be found in the guidebook above, please make special note of the arrival and dismissal times: 8:20am – 3:10pm. Students may begin arriving in Lincoln as early as 8:05am on any school day and are considered tardy if arriving after 8:25am.
Additionally, I look forward to welcoming all of the new Lincoln Families at our “New Family Welcome” on Monday, 8/15 at 6:00pm in the auditorium.
Don’t forget to log into PowerSchool on Tuesday, 8/16 around noon to receive your child’s class placement assignment for the 2022-23 school year.
On Thursday, 8/18, our teachers will return to school to begin the final preparations to welcome your kids back to Lincoln on Monday, 8/22.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to further support your family or ease the transition back to school. On behalf of everyone here at Lincoln, we are excited to see you soon.
Thanks for your continued support of our Fine Fine School! Enjoy these final summer days! CG

Lincoln’s PTO strives to provide additional programs and opportunities for our Lincoln School community. Our success depends on the amazing volunteer support we have. If you aren’t already volunteering, please consider offering support this year to continue enhancing and enriching the education of our students.
This year, we are thrilled that we are able to bring back many programs and activities such as Fun Lunch, after school sports, clubs, and family friendly activities. Keep an eye out in the weekly Lincoln Log for details for each of these fun events.

Our annual back-to-school bike safety workshop is available for registration on the PTO Webstore on Wednesday, 8/17 at 7am! This event is open to 2nd graders as well as any new Lincoln student in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th grades – two sessions are available, please only register for one! This class is complimentary, however registration is required and each day is limited to 25 students.
The River Forest Police Department will conduct a fun, informative and hands-on-the-handlebars bike safety workshop. 2nd graders are strongly encouraged to complete the workshop in order to become safe bike riders for the remainder of their Lincoln Eagle days. Registered students must bring their bike and a helmet in the morning and leave it locked at the bike rack outside the gym on Franklin. The workshop will be both indoor and outdoor, so please be prepared for the weather. Pickup will be on the Franklin side of Lincoln at 4:30pm.
During their recess, Lunchtime Leaders assist the 1st and 2nd grade students as they become experts at navigating the school lunch period. A variety of jobs for the lunchtime leaders include helping students by handing out napkins/utensils, opening yogurts or containers, answering questions and supporting their arrival and dismissal. Depending on student interest level, a Lunchtime Leader will average two lunch periods per month. A monthly calendar is created and distributed to 3rd and 4th grade Lunchtime Leaders. Mr. Godfrey oversees this group while Green4Good, led by Lindsey Silver, helps to educate the Lunchtime Leaders on how to make sure the lunch waste is recycled or composted correctly. Sign up on the PTO Webstore!
Welcome back to the library! Hope you enjoyed your summer and read lots of great books.
Last June, I handed out a reading checklist to all students (K-3rd). This was an optional summer reading challenge which listed places and ways they could read over the summer (called “Oh, the places you can read”). If your student participated in the “Oh the places you can read” program over the summer, the logs must be returned by Friday, 8/26.
Question: How do you give a librarian a huge smile on the first day of school? Answer: Returning lost books! If you found any lost or hiding books over the summer, please bring them in the first week of school.
If you ordered school supplies through the PTO, they will be delivered to your child’s classroom prior to the start of the school year. Please see 22-23 Lincoln School Supply List if you did not pre-order supplies.
Join us on Wednesday, 9/7 at 9:30am for our first PTO meeting. Zoom/In person at Lincoln School TBD.
Everyone is welcome!
