5/8 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,
Happy Mother’s Day to all our Lincoln School Moms. I hope your families spent the day pampering each of you! I know I enjoyed the weekend in St. Louis with my Mom! As we continue to count down the days until summer, there is still much to do in the coming days!

On behalf of all Lincoln Staff, Thank you to our PTO and each of you for all the kind notes, messages and treats this week. I know our staff great appreciated all the kindness showered upon them during Staff Appreciation Week!

This week students in Grades 2,3 and 4 will take the new MAP assessment. Students in District 90 take this assessment in the Fall and Spring in the content areas of Reading and Math. This important instructional assessment provides teachers with rich, individualized data that aids in the creation/planning of differentiated instruction. Below is the MAP testing schedule for this week:

One of the things that makes Lincoln such a Fine Fine School is our Fine Fine PTO! In addition to sponsoring amazing programing and events such as the Science Expo, Movie Night, and International Festival, the PTO also supports our Teacher Wish List items, field trips and countless other aspects of our school. Some of this years various purchases include materials, plants and labor to prepare the Native Garden, the foundation and installation of the C4K Buddy Bench, classroom software, bins to organize and beautify the lost & found, C4K 1st Grade SEL Library, Show Some Respect and Wheel of Wisdom assemblies, 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th grade author visits, classroom supplies such as wipes and paper towels, standing desks, yoga balls and a multitude of other instructional resources. Therefore, PTO is always ready and willing to accept any monetary donation to further support their efforts in enriching the opportunities we provide all Lincoln School Eagles. Please consider contributing through the PTO Webstore.

As always, thanks for your support of our Fine Fine School. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to support you or your family. CG

2016-2017 Bike Safety Co-Chair Needed

The PTO offers a big ‘thank you’ to Steve Lefko for coordinating the recent bike safety training. A co-chair is needed for a NEW fall second grade bike safety session to take place at the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year. Please stay tuned for more information from the district on the policy change, but beginning in fall 2016, second graders will be allowed to ride and leave their bikes at school.

Help the second graders brush up on their bike safety rules by assisting the River Forest Police Department in organizing two bike safety sessions tentatively scheduled for after school on Tuesday, August 30, and Wednesday, August 31. Please email Amy Dwyer (amyadwyer@gmail.com) or Tammy Travis (tamara_irwin@yahoo.com) for more information.

Field Day Information – JUNE 3

fun run clip artThis year the Lincoln Field Day will take place on the last day of school. It’s a fun afternoon that kicks off with a family picnic on the Lincoln playground at 11:25. Parents bring a blanket and a picnic lunch for their family. Although many parents attend, kids sit in class groups and will not feel left out if a parent cannot be there.  Specific spots are mapped out for each classroom on the Franklin Lawn.

The Fourth Grade Maypole and Drumming presentation is immediately after lunch.  Then it’s time for the games! Parents are welcome to stay and help run the games, or can collect their kids at the end of the school day.

4th Graders – Maypole and/or Drumming – Participants wanted! Join the FUN!

Drumming - PicWould your son or daughter like to participate in one of Lincoln School’s Field Day traditions? Our kids have excitedly been watching the “big kids” (aka – 4th graders) over the years entertain and kick off Field Day with Drumming and the Maypole Dance. Now it’s their turn to participate! They can choose to participate in the Maypole Dance and/or Drumming. Practices will tentatively take place the 3 weeks leading up to Field Day (scheduled for Friday, June 3rd). We hope to start practice the week of May 16th. Practice days/times are TBA (we are shooting for a range of practices before school, at lunch, and after school). We all know that schedules these days are busy, especially during the spring months leading up to the end of the school year.

If your son or daughter is interested in participating – please Click Here for the sign up sheet (and we’ll be in touch re: practices, etc.). If you are experiencing issues w/ the sign up sheet please email Dee Dee Carr at “dwn1878 AT gmail.com”.

Sincerely, 4th Grade parents – Lurana Brown (Drumming Queen), Amy Tomaso (Maypole Queen), Dee Dee Carr (assistant to the Queens)
