4/24 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,

I hope you had a great weekend. Thanks so much for all the thoughtful birthday wishes, cards and gifts! I especially love the hand made notes and pictures that the kids showered upon me! This special treatment made turning a year older less painful. I enjoyed a trip to New York with some friends to celebrate # 39!

Many thanks to everyone  on the Greed4Good Committee and staff who helped make Earth Week such a success. From walking to school, wearing green and packing waste free lunches, our community was extremely engaged in heightening the awareness of the Green4Good initiative. We are excited to build upon the momentum of Earth Week as we officially break ground and begin the planting the Lincoln School Native Garden. Although it will be maintained by our Habitat Helpers committee, this week, students will be planting and working in the garden located on the Park Avenue playground. On April 29 (Arbor Day) the Village of River Forest will be here to plant a Black Tupelo tree, which they’ve donated to our school on the Park Avenue playground. Over the summer, three additional trees will be planted on the Park playground.  Click here to learn more about The Lincoln School Native Garden and Habitat Creation Project .

Don’t forget to join us in celebrating Administrative Professionals Day on Wednesday, April 26 as we honor our very own “Wonder Woman,” Mrs. Kopriva. Please be sure to stop in or drop her a note of thanks for all she does to keep our kids safe and our school organized and efficient!

Last week students in grades 3 and 4 took the mathematics portion of the PARCC assessment. This week 3rd and 4th graders will take the English Language Arts assessment. It was a successful 1st week of testing–it was inspiring to witness our kids’ perseverance.  I’m so proud of our kids for always giving their best effort. Below is the schedule for this week; please let me know if there are any questions I can help with.

Finally, I am also excited to announce our partnership with The Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society Children’s Clinic to support their upcoming Book Drive. Please click here Book Drive for more information.

As you can see, things are quite busy here at Lincoln! As always, thanks so much for your continued support of our school. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do to support your family.

Have a great week.  GO St. Louis Blues!  ~ CG

Five, Four, Three, Two, One…Blast off! Get ready to celebrate STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK!

Gorgeous-Solar-System-Art copy

The week of May 2nd – May 6th we will be honoring our Blue Ribbon School’s exceptional teachers and staff with a celestial celebration. Every day the PTO will provide Lincoln staff members with tokens of our appreciation for all they do to put our school in another stratosphere, and help our children become some of the brightest stars in the sky. However, we need your help in making all the planets align!

Please remember to take a moment to express your gratitude to our teachers and staff for all they do daily to make our students feel out of this world. Last week’s Friday Folder contained a coloring worksheet. Please have your child fill it out, color it, and return it to the office no later than Friday, April 29th. Let’s let Lincoln teachers and staff know that we think they are the best in the universe!  (extra coloring pages available in the office)

Shop & Share at Good Earth Greenhouse: Friday May 13 through Sunday May 15

Logo-new-155no-trim_full

Getting ready to do some spring planting? Good Earth Greenhouse on Madison Street has generously agreed to donate ten percent of pre-tax sales during the weekend of May 13-15 to the Lincoln PTO.

Just mention the Lincoln Elementary PTO Shop & Share when you make purchases at Good Earth any time May 13, 14 or 15.

Make the world a greener and more beautiful place and Good Earth will share the “green” with the PTO.   Thank you for your supporting a local business and the Lincoln PTO!

Monday is Our Native Garden Planting Day

Not only is Good Earth sponsoring a Shop & Share, they are also delivering the plants for Lincoln’s Native Garden, which Mrs. Burns is spearheading on the Park Playground.  The Lincoln PTO and Green4Good are helping to fund this garden to provide an improved habitat for our native and migrating birds, butterflies, and pollinators.
