4/22 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,

I hope you enjoyed the weekend and our first glimpse of Spring! How is it that we’ve already come to the final week of April?

This Wednesday (April 25), we will celebrate Administrative Professionals Day. Please be sure stop by or drop Mrs. Kopriva a quick note of appreciation for all she does for our kids and for making the Lincoln office so welcoming with her humor, efficiency and organization.

Despite the frigid temperatures, Earth Week 2018 was a success. Many thanks to Laura Maychruck, Renee Sichlau, Vicki Freund and their Green 4 Good volunteers who continuously support Lincoln’s efforts to be more resourceful, efficient and for educating our kids in our journey to be more “green”!

As you know, student safety is always first.  This week, with the support of the River Forest Police and Fire Departments, Lincoln will have our Spring Safety Week by practicing our various safety drills and procedures. We are so fortunate to have such a strong partnership with the Village of River Forest Police and Fire Departments!

As shared for the past few weeks, we are in the initial process of planning for the 2018-19 academic year. A large piece of that puzzle is the class placement/teacher assignments. Should you be interested in offering some insight into this tedious process, please see the attached letter or reach out to me.

Erin’s Law (House Bill 6193) was signed by Governor Pat Quinn on January 24, 2013.  This law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12.  District 90 researched best practices and programs for delivering this instruction. We reviewed several recommended programs and visited several area school districts to observe programs in action.  We are very pleased to share that Victor Pacini will be visiting Lincoln School on May 2 to deliver his program entitled, Be Seen and Heard©, a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program.

The attached flyer and this link provide more information regarding his presentation.  Please contact me if you have other specific questions or if you prefer your child not participate.

The Erin’s Law presentations on May 2 will be scheduled in the auditorium as follows:
9:00- 9:45 – AM-K and 1st
10:00-10:45  – 3rd/4th
12:45-1:30 – PM-K and 2nd

Finally, don’t forget Friday, April 27 is an 11:25AM early dismissal for all students. Please be sure your child is aware of their dismissal plans. To balance the kindergarten instructional time, please note on Friday the PM Kindergarten students will attend school during the morning and there will be NO AM Kindergarten.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Lincoln. Please never hesitate to let me know if there is anything I can do to support your family. Have a great week. CG

Next Wednesday, April 25th, Lincoln will be celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day. Everyone is invited to carry a poem in their pocket and share it with others throughout the day. Poems can be originals, found on the internet, or copied from a book. We recommend a shorter poem so it’s easier to read when asked about their poem. As always, thank you for supporting your children in fun, literary endeavors. Please contact Mrs. Brauweiler with any questions.

 Join the 2018/2019 PTO team!

Thanks to all who attended the PTO gathering at Old School last week!  There are still PTO positions available for the 2018-2019 school year – please contact Suzanne D’Agostino (suzanne.dagostino@gmail.com) or Amy Prestes (amy.prestes@gmail.com) if you’d like to get involved.

The mission of the PTO is to support and enhance the education of the children at Lincoln School. But without input, ideas and support from the families at Lincoln, fulfilling this mission is not possible. There is a lot you can do for the PTO and for Lincoln School whether you are a working parent or a stay at home parent. Volunteer opportunities are available for events taking place at school during the week or on weekends. And opportunities are available for you to work from the comfort of your own home while younger children nap.  Thank you for your continued support of the Lincoln PTO!

Important messages from your School Nurse

Please remember during cold and flu season to keep your child home if they are sick. If they have a fever they need to be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before they can return to school. If they are vomiting and/or have diarrhea, make sure it has been at least 24 hours since the last episode before returning to school. If your child has an excessively runny nose or cannot stop coughing, it may be a good idea to keep them home. This is to protect your child from catching something if their immune system is down, as well as to protect the other students and staff. Thank you for doing your part to keep everyone at Lincoln School healthy.
