Happy 2017 Lincoln Families,
Welcome back to school! I hope your family had a safe, relaxing, and rejuvenating winter break! I know I enjoyed the time away with friends and family.
I am excited to welcome your kids back to Lincoln tomorrow for the kickoff of 2017. Thank you so much for all the generous cards, gifts, and holiday well wishes. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness! Hopefully, I’ll see you at our January PTO Meeting on Tuesday, January 10 @ 8:45.
The window for the Illinois 5 Essentials Parent Survey has been extended, please consider taking some time to complete this survey.
Finally, as we begin a new year, please remember to keep student safety a priority when using the dropoff/pickup lines. Please remember:
As always, thanks for your continued support of our school. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything I can do for you or your family. Happy New Year!

The Yearbook has an immediate need for a Photographer who is available during a few school days in January or early February.
We need Club Photos for the yearbook for the many 4th grade clubs and the FLIP classes. Club Photos are taken during the Lunch/Recess hour in the auditorium, and the majority of FLIP classes also meet during this period.
We are also seeking additional team members for this year and next year!
If you need a creative outlet and like to work from home, this is the perfect job for you. It takes a team of 4-6 volunteers to publish a 64-page hardcover book.
If you can put together a digital photo book or holiday card, then you have the skills to learn the publishing tool we use for the yearbook. Please consider helping us put the book together this Spring and joining next year’s team. The book must be completed before Spring Break. Working on this project gives you great exposure to the Lincoln faculty and all school events–it’s a great way to learn all about Lincoln!
If interested, please contact Ann Mills (anncieslica@msn.com) or Amy Dwyer (amyadwyer@gmail.com). Thank you!
Thanks to all the Junior Scientists that registered to make the upcoming
Expo one to remember; the event is full. Don’t forget to mark your calendar

will go home with Junior Scientists this week. For teams, one board will go
home with the first team member to register. Please check out all the Expo
details here, and contact Steve Lefko (s_lefkoathotmail.com) with questions.
Snowflake Science…did you know:
– Snowflakes are an aggregation of ice crystals and not a frozen rain drop.
Frozen rain drops are called sleet.
– Snowflake size and shape are determined by cloud temperature and humidity.
– According to Guinness World Records, the largest snowflake ever reported
fell in Fort Keogh, Montana in January of 1887 and allegedly measured an
astounding 15 inches wide!
– All snowflakes have six sides or branches because individual water
molecules freeze according to a hexagonal lattice. Snowflakes grow when
more crystals attached to each of the six corners.
For more information, please see our flyer: Jr. Scientist Expo 2017
We need volunteers to make this event a success. Please sign up at the Lincoln Volunteer SUG site.
