12/13 Lincoln Log

Lincoln Families,

I hope you had a nice weekend. The past several days have been quite a whirlwind around Lincoln as our staff continued to teach remotely while behind the scenes spending hours pivoting to be prepared for “Blended Learning,” beginning tomorrow.

Attached you’ll find a copy of “Lincoln’s Guide to Blended Learning.” I’m hopeful this resource and accompanying video will address many of your questions regarding our return to the “Blended Learning” model. Mr. Godfrey’s Welcome Back to Lincoln Video Message Dec. 2020

I realize the decision to return to school caught many families off guard. Please note that if your family has recently traveled outside of the state of Illinois, a 14 day quarantine is required. Please note that this will also apply for any travel over the Winter Break. January 19th is the current date set to return to “Blended Learning” after the Winter Break. Therefore, families should quarantine 14 days prior if their child is returning to school at that time.  Please visit the Cook County Public Health Travel Guide or contact Nurse Godellas if you have specific questions. Thanks for your support in keeping our students and staff safe.

Here are a few highlights from the attached guide book:

First Day:

We are excited to welcome ALL Lincoln Eagles back to school on Monday, December 14. Students should plan to arrive at school beginning at 8:15 to their assigned entrance. Students arriving after 8:30 will be considered tardy. The instructional day is daily:

  • Kindergarten AM – 8:30am to 10:30 am
  • Kindergarten PM – 12:00pm to 2:00 pm
  • 1st through 4th grade – 8:30am to 12:30pm

Masks:

Face masks must be worn at all times by everyone on the Lincoln School Campus. Please note that D90 does not recognize “neck gaiters” as an appropriate face covering.

Daily Self Certification:

Prior to arriving at school, families should “Pre-Screen” each child in their home for symptoms of Covid-19. Students must be wearing a Lincoln “I’ve Been Screened for Covid-19” sticker upon arrival to campus. Here again are the instructions for reporting your child’s daily screening.

Daily Self Certification Instructions

**Please note, families with multiple children should submit a separate form for each child daily. Self-certification stickers were mailed home earlier this year. Additional stickers can be retrieved in the Lincoln School Office.

Supply Pick Up For Remote Learners:

Supply pick up for Remote Learners will continue to be held on Fridays between 8:00-2:00. Any items not picked up on Fridays will be available in the bins inside the Park. Ave. lobby.

Physical Education:

Weather permitting, Mr. Augustine and Ms. McDermott, our PE teachers, will plan to take students outside for their weekly PE classes. Therefore, please be sure students wear appropriate shoes on PE days. Specific grade/class schedules can be found in the attached “Blended Learning” guide.

Winter Spirit Week:

Our highly anticipated Winter Spirit Week has been slightly adjusted due to our return to “Blended Learning.” Below is an outline of our plan for next week:

  • Monday 12/21: Holiday Headwear: Wear your favorite hat, santa hat, elf hat, headband, antlers etc!
  • Tuesday 12/22: Holiday Bling: Wear your favorite holiday colors: red, green, gold, blue, white, silver or even your tackiest holiday shirt or sweater!
  • Wednesday 12/23: Lincoln School Pajama Day and D.E.A.R.: Wear your favorite pajamas and bring a book to Drop Everything and Read!

As previously noted, please know that while teachers and staff will strive to provide a similar experience for our students who are learning remotely and the students attending school in person, it will not always be the same.  Especially within the first few days of the return to school, teachers will be working with students who are in-person to set up their learning space in the classroom, review safety protocols and procedures,  outline bathroom procedures, snack time, etc. During these times, remote learners will be welcome to work asynchronously on academic tasks or take brain breaks of their own.

We are excited for the coming week and greatly appreciate your patience and support as we welcome all K-4 kids back to Lincoln for the first time since March. There will likely be some hiccups along the way, but please know that our safety procedures and protocols take precedence above all else! Have a wonderful week. Welcome back! CG
