11/22 Lincoln log

Lincoln Families,

Happy Thanksgiving! After 55 days of hard work, this week marks a time for each of us to take a mini break from the world of remote learning and remote teaching/parenting to pause and express gratitude.

Like many of you the Godfrey’s have hit “pause” on our annual family gathering for Thanksgiving. For the first time in 43 years, I’ll spend a solo Thanksgiving here in Chicago and away from my family in St. Louis. Like all things 2020, we will find safe and virtual ways to celebrate together while honoring the guidance on travel and gatherings. Like many of you, the sacrifice of not being with family, especially after the year we have all had is a difficult one. However, that doesn’t mean we all don’t continue to have countless things to remain thankful for. Of course, Thanksgiving is synonymous with delicious food and fellowship. However, perhaps  2020 has taught us that the most profound acts of gratitude come in words, actions and how we treat each other, not how full our plate is on November 26. Therefore as we begin this holiday week, I challenge each of you and your kids to reflect upon the things that 2020 has made you more thankful for.

One day the pandemic will end, Lincoln will open, we will again gather with friends and family and we will return to a somewhat altered sense of normal. So take this time to embrace the pause on “life as we think it should be,” and truly embrace the many sources of your gratitude. Express that gratitude by sending a note to a teacher, calling a loved one, texting an old friend, extending a helping hand to a neighbor and by simply practicing KINDNESS. I remain grateful that six years ago my life journey brought me to the doorsteps at 511 Park Ave. Since then, River Forest has become, second only to St. Louis, a place where I feel incredibly at home, loved, supported and respected! So, as always, this Thanksgiving our Fine Fine School community is high atop my gratitude list! What are you and your family thankful for? Don’t just think about it, share it with others!

From the entire Godfrey family, Happy Thanksgiving to each of you and your loved ones. Have a safe and relaxing holiday. I look forward to seeing you on the Morning Messages after the break as we countdown the final school days of 2020! Happy Thanksgiving!

Green4Good at Home

While our Thanksgiving may look different this year, we all may still be looking for a good walk,  a good movie, and a good way to give back. Please check out the Openlands Get Outside map to discover great Chicago area hikes, the Kiss the Ground movie about regenerative agriculture (or other movies we recommend about our food systems or from the One Earth Film Festival), and great organizations feeding those in need this holiday season, like Beyond Hunger or Housing Forward.

The G4G committee extends our gratitude to the District 90 community, especially the school PTO’s and principals, for allowing us to reach you via the school newsletters this year with our sustainability messages.  Have a Happy and Healthy Thanksgiving!

Social Emotional Learning resources

With Thanksgiving coming up, this is a great time to focus on Gratitude!  The attached calendar has great activities for adults and children — something for everyone in the family!  Even though life in the pandemic has been challenging, there are always things for which we can give thanks.  A focus on gratitude can improve your health, help you deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

Additionally, you will find some great Thanksgiving gratitude prompts!
