Lincoln Families,
I hope you had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the slight thaw from the below zero temperatures of last week. Whoa, let’s hope that the next few weeks of January go by more quickly than the first week. While it was so great to be back to school, it sure did feel like a long and frigid week. Hopefully, temperatures will warm enough for us to have outdoor snacks and recess this week.
As referenced in the D90 Weekly Update this past Friday, after consultation with the Rush Infection Prevention Team and internal discussions, District 90 will be implementing a new masking protocol in our schools that will remain in effect until the current heightened rates of COVID transmission recede to pre-omicron levels. The District has obtained surgical type masks for all students and employees and will ask that individuals replace the face mask they wear to school with a D90-issued surgical mask at the start of each school day. The District will provide these masks for all individuals on a daily basis, so it will not be necessary for students or staff to provide their own. Our goal is to begin this protocol as soon as Tuesday, January 11. The rationale for the new protocol is to ensure that all individuals in our schools are wearing high-quality face masks against the very transmissible omicron variant. At Lincoln, students will enter the school with any mask they might be wearing from home and be distributed a surgical type mask upon entry to their classroom.
This week, District 90 will begin administering the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) to students in Grades 3-5. The MAP assessment is a reading and mathematics multiple-choice, adaptive assessment that is taken online. Adaptive assessments adjust the test questions relative to an individual student’s response. For each correct answer given, the next question will increase in difficulty. For each incorrect answer given, the following question will decrease in difficulty. For this reason, the MAP questions will not look the same for all students. This assessment takes approximately 50 minutes for each of the two content areas that will be administered. Here is the Lincoln MAP Schedule:
Please spread the word for our annual Kindergarten Information Night on Thursday, February 4, see the attached flier for more information.
This Wednesday (weather permitting), I’m looking forward to celebrating January Birthdays with our monthly “GaGa With Godfrey.” If your child missed a previous birthday celebration, they are welcome to attend.
Finally, don’t forget that this Friday, January 14 will be a non school attendance day for kids due to Teacher Institute Day. D90 Staff continue to engage in important work for Math Instruction and Standards Based Grading.
As always, thanks for your continued support of Lincoln and for helping to keep our school community a safe one. Please never hesitate to reach out if there is anything more I can do to support your kids or family.
Have a wonderful second week of 2022. ~ CG
