11/25 Lincoln Log
I hope this message finds you well and enjoying the closing moments of the holiday weekend. Hopefully, you enjoyed the Thanksgiving break and are rested and rejuvenated for the final twenty school days of 2018!
As we unofficially enter the winter months, it is important to make sure kids are dressed for the elements. Hats, gloves, winter coats and snow boots (when applicable) are necessary during recess. Exercise and movement are always important, but especially so during the winter months. Therefore, we make every attempt to go outdoors for recess during the winter. However, at times when the wind chill (real-feel) is below ten degrees, we do implement our indoor recess plan. We utilize the Roosevelt Middle School WeatherBug as our source for weather related decisions. The WeatherBug app is available for download in both the iTunes and Google app stores.
The 5Essentials Survey will be administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. The confidential online survey will be conducted with families until February 15, 2019. The survey will gather data related to five indicators that have been demonstrated to forecast student outcomes and provide a comprehensive picture of a school’s organizational culture. These five indicators are: Effective Leaders, Collaborative Teachers, Involved Families, Supportive Environments and Ambitious Instruction.
All teachers and District students in grades 4-8 will be participating in this survey. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will contribute to a better understanding of the conditions of our schools and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will not be connected to you or your child. To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. This online survey can be accessed from a PC/laptop, smart phone, or tablet. If you have more than one child enrolled in a District 90 school, you may take one survey for each child regardless of the school.
Finally, we are excited to welcome you to attend the annual Winter Concerts on Friday, December 21.
